Five Men Blackened A Woman’s Eyes And Knocked Her Front Tooth Out Because She’s A Lesbian
Is it too dramatic to say that the world is in peril? Maybe that’s too much for those of us who like to look at the the sunny side of the street but still, it’s hard to ignore the incidents of hate that seem to be running rampant in our country.
Unfortunately, 26-year-old Sabrina Hooks and her girlfriend Morgan experienced some of this hate firsthand when they were simply trying to have a meal at Jack in the Box.
According to a Los Angeles local news station, the incident began on October 29, when five men walked into the restaurant in South L.A. As soon as they came in the restaurant, they started hurling insults. “They said, you know, I’m a dike and I’m gay and I had to keep my ‘hoe in check’ and just for no reason,” Hooks said.
She tried to deescalate the situation but things quickly turned physical when one of the men hit Hooks in the back of her head.
Shortly after, the other four men jumped in kicking Hooks in the face. Hooks’ girlfriend Morgan watched in horror, helpless as the whole thing went down.
“Looking at her makes me want to cry every single time I look at her. To just assume that two guys can seriously put their hands on a female, it’s shocking.”
After all was said and done, Hooks lost her front tooth, sustained two black eyes and possible permanent damage to her left eye.
During the fight, no one from Jack in the Box, employees or patrons, stepped in to intervene. Afterward, Morgan who was also hit during the attack, took Hooks to the hospital.
“For it to get violent and, like I said, no one helped, that’s just what really stunned me and it still hurts. It makes me fear just to walk down the street,” Hooks added.
While no witnesses have stepped forward, the LAPD has launched a hate crime investigation and is hoping to find video that may shed some light on what happened and the men involved.
Hooks said she is hoping for justice as a resolution to the whole thing.
“A little justice would be nice,” she said. “Just so the next person doesn’t have to worry like I do.”
In the meantime, a Go Fund Me account has been launched by Morgan and another friend to help cover some of Hooks’ medical expenses.
In the description for the event, friends of Hooks wrote, “As you can imagine the unplanned medical bills and need for some dental work has exhausted all of her funds. But this campaign is more than funds for new teeth, eye glasses and medical bills its also about a need for prayer and positive vibes sent her way for her mental health. As you can imagine this was scary. So please share and anything from words to a penny that you can give is greatly appreciated.”
