She’s In: Beyoncé Confirms She’s Starring In The Lion King Remake

November 2, 2017  |

Earlier this year, we reported that Disney and director of the film Jon Faverau were interested in securing Beyoncé to participate in their live-action remake of The Lion King. Reports claimed that the company and all involved would do whatever it took to accommodate Beyoncé’s busy schedule. And while it seemed like a reasonable possibility, there was no confirmation from the singer herself or Disney.

Until there was.

Yesterday evening, Disney tweeted an image that shook up social media.

As originally reported, Beyoncé will voice the role of Nala. Donald Glover will be Simba. James Earl Jones will reprise his role as Mufasa, Chiwetel Ejiofor will portray Scar, Keegan Michael Key will play Kamari–who I haven’t heard of– and Alfre Woodard will play Sarabi, Simba’s mother.

Also, it’s interesting to note that young Simba will be played by JD McCrary. You may not recognize him by name but you might have seen the video of him gone viral where he was singing New Edition’s “Can You Stand The Rain.”

McCrary was also featured on Childish Gambino (Donald Glover’s) “Terrified” from his latest album Awaken My Love!

This sounds truly incredible.

There is no specific date but we’re looking forward to Summer 2019.
